A plan for Friday
Hi Alex,
I’ll show you the new design on Friday at 10:00. Let me know if that works for you.

Median time from key release to ready text
20 local dictations · transcription, AI and insertion12.8 s speaking + 803 ms to ready text after key release
Flash’s time is measured. Typing time uses an assumed keyboard pace.
How do we measure and compare?
The source is 20 consecutive saved dictations from Flash’s local technical log, inspected on 20 September 2026. All had completed AI correction and successful insertion.
Median waiting time after key release was 924 ms. 11 of 20 results took under a second; 19 of 20 took under two seconds. Range: 576-3557 ms. These results reflect one Mac and its Groq connection, not a guarantee for every attempt.
Flash’s time is the recording plus the complete time from key release to insertion: finishing transcription, AI correction and text insertion. Manual editing after insertion is not measured. The default typing pace is 50 wpm - an adjustable reference, not a measurement of your typing.
CHANGE TEXT WITH A COMMAND
Good thought.
Better words.
Select a passage. Say “make it shorter”, “make it more polite” or “translate”. Flash changes the selection.
Save a useful command as an Action. Next time, use your own shortcut.
AFTER THE EDIT
Hi Alex,
Could you review the design and share your feedback?
Thanks!

TELEPROMPTER
You have something
to say.
Prepare your script. Speak at your own pace. The teleprompter follows your voice with Apple Speech.

Which languages can I dictate in?
Flash supports dictation in 99 languages, including English, Polish, German, Spanish, French, Italian, Portuguese and Ukrainian. The default “System” option picks the first supported language in your macOS preferred languages list.
A manually selected language, including “Auto (detect)”, takes priority and is preserved after updates. Select “System” again to follow your Mac’s language settings.
The interface language is separate. Country or region alone does not select the spoken language. If none of your system languages is supported, Flash detects the recording’s language.
What’s free, and what depends on Groq?
Flash 2.0 is a free, closed-source app with no Pro tier or Flash account. Dictation uses Groq Whisper Large v3; correction and Actions use GPT OSS 20B. You need the internet and your own Groq key. Free API limits, model availability and any charges depend on your Groq account. Timing and quality depend on speech, correction and your connection. Review the result before use.
Current Groq limits ↗First launch and shortcuts
The setup guide requests Microphone and Accessibility permissions. Set Fn / 🌐 to “Do Nothing” in System Settings → Keyboard. Hold Fn to dictate; double-press it to go hands-free. Fn inserts new text, including replacing a selection. Shift + Fn runs Change text with a command. Some custom or protected fields may limit insertion and selection access.
I’m moving from the old Flash. What changes?
2.0 uses separate data storage. Settings → Privacy → Import data lets you choose Flash 1.x or Noryn / Aria, inspect the summary and start a manual import. Original files remain untouched. Keys, accounts, licences and consent are not transferred; reassign Action shortcuts. Installation does not cancel an old subscription. 2.0 does not include meetings, tasks, automations, integrations, project scanning or local offline models.
A question about your old subscription? Get in touch.Where do my voice and text go?
Audio goes directly to Groq. Correction and Actions send the required text and dictionary context. Long dictation may send chunks during pauses; canceling does not recall sent data. Your key stays in Keychain and history is encrypted locally. Dictionary, Actions and scripts are local, unencrypted files. Apple Speech may work online. TelemetryDeck and PostHog analytics are optional, off by default, with no content, audio, keys or session recording.
